It's easy to create the effect of a ribbon running through your work. Attach the accent yarn or ribbon to your main yarn, then knit or purl the first stitch with both strands together. For the second stitch, drop the accent yarn and knit or purl just the main yarn. For the next stitch, pick up both strands again. Repeat this process through the whole project or just use this technique as a border or accent. (This idea works best on simple patterns--may not come out right on cables or other "twisty" pattens.)
