My all-time #1 favorite free classified ad site is

Craig's List

No hype, no popups, regional categories, up to 4free photos. These ads really pull. Ed has sold 2 items there, already. Ed's Hint: If you don't get immediate results, delete your ad and list it again, to keep it near the top.

This is definitely a 5-$ web site.

WARNING!! *** WARNING!! *** WARNING!! *** WARNING!! *** WARNING!! Please be extremely wary of distant "buyers" responding to your ad! Many sellers receive replies from scammers hoping to defraud them through schemes involving (counterfeit) cashier's checks and/or wire transfers. Fake cashier's checks will often clear funds, but banks hold the person cashing the check responsible when the fraud is discovered. More info on scams can be found at this web address: http://www.craigslist.org/about/scams.html

The above warning came directly from Craig's List (reproduced with permission). Ed warned me, yesterday, that it almost happened to him, and it did happen to a friend of his. We've always trusted cashier's checks, and ignorantly believed that once they were cashed we had no more to fear. WRONG AGAIN!

Last night I listed our 5th wheel for sale on Craig's list. This morning I received a bogus offer, which I forwarded to Craig's List. I got this reply, almost immediately.

This example was so clumsy, it was obviously a scam, but that doesn't mean that some of them might not be believable. Please warn your friends. What a shame that a wonderful group like Craig's List should be plagued by this sort of thing.

If you have a favorite classified ad site you'd like to share,
please send me an email.
If appropriate, I'll list it here and link back to your site.
