Online Communities For Writers |
by Susan Molthop |
Revised August 3, 2007
In the old days, only the major players could affort forums and chats on their Web sites, and only AOL offered free home pages. Now, free "communities" are popping up everywhere, so you should be able to find lots of stimulating writers' hang outs, to drop in on whenever you're in the neighborhood, and plenty of places to hang your hat and call it home. Also, some of these communities let you add your own public or private chat rooms and forums to your existing Web site. Since they're free, and take up no space on your computer, there's nothing stopping you from signing up with all of them.
Before we begin, you
should know that this is not a good activity for when you're in a hurry. All
of these communities require registration. You also want to have time to explore.
Let's start with
AboutFreelanceWriting. This is an active, friendly forum
for freelance writers, by Anne Wayman, former About.com Guide to Freelance writing.
This site also offers a newsletter, ebooks, courses, and articles. Anne is also
available through email, which makes this a very up-close-and-personal type
of writers' community.
