Local Writing Opportunities
by Debbie Swanson
One way to build up your list of freelance clients is to look locally.
Every business has writing needs: brochures, technical material, product
announcements, ad or web copy. "The smaller, the better" can work in your
favor - a one or two person business may be in desperate need of a good
writer. Small shops won't have to go through layers of red tape to hire
you, and you won't be competing against a pool of applicants. Approach
them and let them know a qualified writer is available right nearby.
Send your brochure to any small companies located on top of strip malls,
small industrial parks, medical or legal office buildings in your area.
Once you get your first local client, make them 100% happy and chances
are, word of mouth referrals will come your way.
