Keeping a mother
cat and her kittens is not a good idea. When the kittens are old enough
to be on their own, the mother will usually try to run them off. After
that, they'll never get along well.
If you want an exceptionally
loving, bonding relationship with a cat, offer to adopt a "bottle
baby" from your local humane society. Kittens that are trained
by humans instead of their mother, make much better pets. (Be prepared
for the extra work and loss of sleep until the kitten is old enough
to be self-sufficient.)
If you have cats
or kittens that aren't allowed outside, bring some of the outside in
for them. When I prune my edible herbs, I bring the cuttings in for
our new babies--Sandy and Rizzo--to sniff at and munch on. Here they
are with the mint clippings.
If you don't have
edible plants to bring in, shop for wheat grass at your local market
or buy seeds and grow your own. Here are Sandy and Rizzo next to their
wheat grass plant. They love to much on it.
